Kerie cutting the Crabwood cake. Obviously of no interest to John W.

I would like to thank Pat and Helen for hosting the “Birthday Tea”. Several riders enjoyed a club run in the morning, stopping for lunch at The Gamekeeper, Woodlands. The weather was dry and the sun appeared in the afternoon for the tea. It was good to see so many members there.

This was the last club event of the season and up until then we had enjoyed a run of dry events. So guess what happened, yes we had a very heavy shower just after the event had started. Not just very wet, but rather chilly as well. After the event the evening was finished off with a slap up feast at the Forest Inn, Ashurst.

1st Pat Lafford 24.37, 2nd and 1st handicap John Winchester 25.52, 3rd Claire Newman 26.54,  John Sanchez-Bisson 30.15, Alan Bigwood DNF {cold, wet and miserable}

Congratulations to Pat Lafford, who was the fastest CCC rider in each of the events and scored a maximum of 50 points. Last years winner Alan Bigwood failed miserably to retain the trophy, but did manage the runner up spot, beating Dave England into third by just one point.

So well done to Pat, who won everything. So come on you CCC testers, let’s have a whip round and pay for Pats subs so he can join Sotonia.

Other News

The club would like to send their best wishes to Mike Matthews, who following serious spinal problems and an operation, has had limited mobility. Best wishes for your complete recovery and hope to see out on your bike in the not too distant future.

After a promising first half of the season, Dave has been out of action following a ‘brief encounter’ with a van the day after the club 25 championships in June, but is now back on the bike and managed a couple of late-season ‘10’s.

Trip to the Alps, Barcelonnette, France.

We all enjoyed the annual trip to The Tour. We stayed in a rather nice chalet perched on the side of the valley, it was a 2km twisty climb up to chalet from the valley christened the Col De Gite, which most of us {Claire?} had to ride up at the end of each day. The weather was hot and sunny and only clouding over late afternoon, and not being in the valley floor it was nice and cool in the evenings. We tackled a few of the local climbs, which most of were over 20kms long and reaching altitudes of over 2000 metres. So a big thanks from all who went to Claire for organising the holiday.

I would to thank Claire for the following, this was found in an old club newsletter.

1940’s humour

The eccentrics were out on their bicycles.  Suddenly one of them stopped, jumped off, and let all the air out of his back tyre.  “Why do that?” asked the other.  “Saddle’s too high” said his companion.  “Lend me a spanner” demanded the second cyclist.  With that he loosened the bolt on the handlebars, twisted the bars back to front and tightened up the bolt again  “What’s going on?” asked the other  “I’m going back” answered the second, “I’m not cycling with a fool like you”

That’s it for this edition. If anyone has anything of interest or funny for the newsletter please send it me This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Alan
